Korean society on film

 

[Course description]
  1. The course aims at familiarizing students with Korean society at various stages of Korean history. Participants will watch seven films (The Book of Fish, Masquerade, Assassination, Homecoming of the Spirits, Ode to My Father, Taxi, The Attorney) and will be expected to deliver an individual/ group presentation on the historical background to the era in which the film is set and/or on various issues it represents.
  2. Prior to the viewing of the films, participants will also be given a worksheet, which they have to complete while watching the given film. Based on the worksheet, a structured discussion will follow.
  3. Students will also be invited to prepare a viewing journal to record their personal impressions and to respond to specific aspects of the given cinematographic works.
